- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butterscotch chips
- 1 cup caramel sauce
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Mix in the buttermilk and vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mix, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in the butterscotch chips.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, layer the cakes with caramel sauce between each layer and on top.
Notes
- Store cake in an airtight container.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of sea salt on top of the caramel sauce.
- Can substitute butterscotch chips with chocolate chips if desired.
