Ingredients

  • 1 whole turkey (1214 pounds)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups stuffing of your choice
  • 4 cups turkey or chicken broth
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 2 carrots, cut into chunks
  • 2 celery stalks, cut into chunks
  • Fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, sage)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Remove the turkey giblets and pat the turkey dry.
  3. Rub the softened butter all over the turkey.
  4. Season with salt and pepper inside and out.
  5. Stuff the turkey with your choice of stuffing.
  6. Place onion, carrots, and celery in the roasting pan.
  7. Put the turkey on top of the vegetables.
  8. Pour broth into the pan.
  9. Cover the turkey loosely with foil.
  10. Roast for about 3 to 3.5 hours, removing the foil in the last hour for browning.
  11. Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (75°C).
  12. Let it rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.
