Classic English Gingerbread with Orange Drizzle


Ingredients

  • 250g plain flour
  • 100g dark brown sugar
  • 100g unsalted butter
  • 200g golden syrup
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • Juice of 1 orange
  • 100g icing sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F).
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter, sugar, and golden syrup together.
  3. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  4. In a bowl, mix together the flour, spices, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Add the melted mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well.
  6. Stir in the egg, orange zest, and juice until combined.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased baking tin.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes until firm.
  9. Allow to cool before drizzling with icing.
  10. For the drizzle, mix icing sugar with orange juice until smooth.
