Classic English Gingerbread with Orange Drizzle
Ingredients

- 250g plain flour
- 100g dark brown sugar
- 100g unsalted butter
- 200g golden syrup
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 large egg
- Zest of 1 orange
- Juice of 1 orange
- 100g icing sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F).
- In a saucepan, melt the butter, sugar, and golden syrup together.
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- In a bowl, mix together the flour, spices, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the melted mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well.
- Stir in the egg, orange zest, and juice until combined.
- Pour the batter into a greased baking tin.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until firm.
- Allow to cool before drizzling with icing.
- For the drizzle, mix icing sugar with orange juice until smooth.

- Store in an airtight container.
- Best served after a day for flavors to develop.
- Can be topped with chopped nuts for extra texture.
