Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground allspice.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the fresh orange juice. Start and end with the flour mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Gently fold in the chopped dates and orange zest until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice the cake and serve it on a simple white plate.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider soaking the chopped dates in warm water or orange juice for about 15 minutes before adding them to the batter.
- This cake can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- To enhance the presentation, you can dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar before serving.
