Ingredients

- 1 cup pitted dates, chopped
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup charred orange syrup
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, combine chopped dates and warm water. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs and vanilla extract, mix well.
- In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the date mixture.
- Pour the batter into a greased cake pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Drizzle with charred orange syrup before serving.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
- Can be served warm or at room temperature.
