Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup charred orange syrup

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine chopped dates and warm water. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla extract, mix well.
  5. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the date mixture.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased cake pan.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Drizzle with charred orange syrup before serving.
