Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour a cake pan.
- In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in molasses.
- In another bowl, mix flour, baking soda, spices, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the molasses mixture, alternating with buttermilk.
- Mix until just combined.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
- Can be served with whipped cream or frosting.
- For extra flavor, add nuts or raisins.
