A classic English toffee recipe that is rich and buttery.

- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add sugar, water, and salt, stirring constantly until the mixture reaches a boil.
- Continue to cook without stirring until the mixture reaches a deep amber color, about 300°F on a candy thermometer.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Pour the mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- If using, sprinkle chopped nuts on top while still warm.
- Let cool completely, then break into pieces.
- Melt chocolate chips and drizzle over toffee, if desired.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container.
- Use a candy thermometer for best results.
