  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan or similar-sized cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground cloves, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated.
  5. Add the molasses, buttermilk, and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture. Mix until well combined.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  8. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, dust the top with powdered sugar.
  11. Slice and serve. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
