- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 5 to 7 tablespoons ice water
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup mushrooms, chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 egg, beaten for egg wash
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour and salt.
- Add butter and blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough forms a ball.
- Wrap the dough in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- In a skillet, cook beef, onion, and garlic until meat is browned.
- Add mushrooms, carrots, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Cook until vegetables are soft.
- Roll out the dough and fit into a pie dish. Fill with meat mixture.
- Cover with another layer of dough and seal edges.
- Cut slits in the top crust for steam to escape.
- Brush with beaten egg.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
