Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of red wine (750ml)
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 2 star anise
  • 1/4 cup brandy (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine the red wine, orange slices, lemon slices, and sugar.
  2. Heat over medium heat until warm, but do not boil.
  3. Add cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise.
  4. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  5. If desired, add brandy and stir.
  6. Strain the mixture into mugs and serve warm.

Notes

  • Adjust sugar to taste.
  • Can be made in advance and reheated.
  • Garnish with additional fruit or spices if desired.
