Description
A traditional British dessert made with treacle for a rich flavor.
Ingredients

- 200g all-purpose flour
- 200g black treacle
- 100g unsalted butter
- 100g sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Grease a 20cm round cake tin.
- Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the black treacle.
- Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared tin.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a skewer inserted comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before serving.
Notes
- Serve warm with custard or cream.
- This sponge can be stored for up to three days.
- For a richer flavor, let it sit overnight before serving.
