Description
A classic English dessert featuring a rich, moist cake flavored with treacle and topped with a sweet orange syrup.

- 200g all-purpose flour
- 100g unsalted butter
- 150g treacle
- 100g brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 150ml milk
- zest of 1 orange
- juice of 1 orange
- 100g sugar for syrup
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Grease and flour a cake pan.
- In a bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light.
- Add the treacle and mix well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and milk together.
- Gradually add the egg mixture to the butter mixture.
- In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
- Stir in the orange zest.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- While the cake bakes, make the orange syrup by boiling the juice and sugar until thickened.
- Once the cake is done, let it cool and drizzle with syrup.

- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
- This cake pairs well with tea.
- You can substitute lemon for orange for a different flavor.
