- 1 ½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup (120ml) whole milk
- Zest of 1 large orange
- ½ cup (120ml) fresh orange juice
- 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2–3 tablespoons fresh orange juice (for glaze)
- Zest of 1 small orange (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, mix in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the whole milk. Start and end with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Gently fold in the orange zest and fresh orange juice until evenly distributed.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, cool the cake in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and enough orange juice to achieve a smooth, pourable consistency. Optional: add zest of a small orange.
- Once the cake is cool, drizzle the orange glaze over the top.
- Slice the cake and serve it on a simple white plate.
Notes
- For extra flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of orange extract to the batter.
- This cake can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- Serve with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat.
