Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 slices of rye bread
  • 4 slices of cheese (your choice)
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the secret sauce by mixing mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard in a bowl.
  2. Form the ground beef into two patties, season with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt 1 tbsp of butter.
  4. Add the onion slices and cook until caramelized.
  5. In the same skillet, cook the beef patties for about 4 minutes on each side or until cooked to your liking.
  6. Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking.
  7. Toast the rye bread in the remaining butter until golden brown.
  8. Assemble the melt: Spread secret sauce on the toasted bread, add the patty, onions, and top with another slice of bread.
  9. Cook the sandwich in the skillet until both sides are golden and cheese is melted.
