Description

A traditional Mexican soup made with hominy, meat, and green sauce.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups hominy
  • 1 pound pork shoulder, cut into pieces
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup tomatillos, husked and chopped
  • 1/2 cup green chilies, chopped
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine pork, chicken broth, and hominy.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour.
  3. In a blender, combine tomatillos, green chilies, onion, garlic, and cumin. Blend until smooth.
  4. Add the green sauce to the pot and simmer for another 30 minutes.
  5. Season with salt to taste.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.

Notes

  • Adjust spice level by adding more chilies if desired.
  • Can substitute chicken for pork.
  • Serve with lime wedges and radishes for extra flavor.
