Description

Red Velvet Brownies are a delightful twist on the classic brownie, combining the rich, chocolatey taste of brownies with the unique flavor and striking red color of red velvet cake. With a soft, moist texture and a hint of tanginess from the buttermilk or vinegar, these brownies are truly a treat for the senses. Topped with a luscious cream cheese frosting, Red Velvet Brownies are perfect for celebrations, holidays, or simply as a favorite dessert to enjoy at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 stick Butter (85g)
  • 1 cup Sugar (200g)
  • 1/4 cup Light Brown Sugar (55g)
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1/3 cup Vegetable Oil (72g)
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa Powder (25g)
  • 3/4 cup All-purpose Flour (90g)
  • 1 tbsp Vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Red Food Coloring
  • 3/4 cup White Chocolate Chips (optional)

For Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 4 oz Cream Cheese, softened
  • 3/4 stick Butter (85g), softened
  • 4 cups Powdered Sugar (480g)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • A pinch of Salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch (23×23 cm) baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Allow it to cool slightly before proceeding.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, light brown sugar, eggs, egg yolk, vanilla extract, vegetable oil, and vinegar until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Sift together the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, and red food coloring in a separate bowl. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, folding until just combined. Fold in white chocolate chips, if using.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
  7. For the cream cheese frosting, beat together 4 oz cream cheese and 3/4 stick of butter until creamy. Gradually add 4 cups powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth. Spread the frosting over the cooled brownies.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter is melted but not browned for best texture.
  • If you don’t have white chocolate chips, you can leave them out or use regular chocolate chips.
  • For a healthier option, you can use coconut oil instead of vegetable oil.
  • Check your brownies a few minutes before the recommended time to prevent overbaking.
