Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch square cake pan.
- Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. Gradually add this to the wet mixture, alternating with milk. Start and end with the flour mixture.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
