Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Start and end with the flour mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Gently fold in the chopped dates until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top. Sprinkle the additional brown sugar over the top.
