Description
Soft Date Brown Sugar Loaf is a moist and flavorful bread made with dates and brown sugar.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup chopped dates (pitted)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Start and end with the flour mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Gently fold in the chopped dates until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top. Sprinkle the additional brown sugar over the top.
- Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice once cooled and enjoy plain or with butter.
Notes
- For extra flavor, consider adding chopped nuts or a pinch of nutmeg.
