Description

A delightful twist on traditional sushi, the sushi bake casserole combines the flavors of sushi into a warm, comforting dish that’s perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

  • Sushi rice: 2 cups (uncooked)
  • Imitation crab meat: 8 oz (shredded)
  • Cream cheese: 8 oz (softened)
  • Mayonnaise: 1/2 cup
  • Green onions: 1/4 cup (chopped)
  • Nori sheets: 4 sheets (cut into strips)
  • Sriracha: 2 tablespoons (plus extra for drizzling)
  • Panko breadcrumbs: 1 cup
  • Soy sauce: for serving (optional)
  • Sesame seeds: for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Rinse 2 cups of sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then cook according to package instructions.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, shredded imitation crab, chopped green onions, and sriracha. Mix until creamy.
  4. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and spread half of the cooked sushi rice evenly across the bottom. Layer half of the nori strips over the rice, then spoon half of the crab mixture over the nori. Repeat the layers with the remaining rice, nori, and crab mixture.
  5. Sprinkle panko breadcrumbs over the top layer and drizzle with extra sriracha. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Let cool for a few minutes, garnish with sesame seeds, and serve warm with soy sauce on the side.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, substitute imitation crab with fresh vegetables.
  • For added flavor, mix sesame oil into the crab filling.
  • Can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator before baking.
