Ingredients

  • 200g treacle
  • 150g pitted dates, chopped
  • 100g unsalted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 200g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 100g sugar
  • 200ml milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter and treacle together.
  3. In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and nutmeg.
  4. In another bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar until combined.
  5. Add the melted butter mixture to the egg mixture and mix well.
  6. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, then fold in the chopped dates.
  7. Pour in the milk and stir until smooth.
  8. Pour the batter into a greased loaf tin.
  9. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.
  10. Let it cool before slicing.
