- 1 cup (240ml) boiling water
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup (150g) light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup (60g) chopped walnuts, toasted
- 1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter
- 1/3 cup (65g) sugar
- 1/4 cup (60ml) fresh orange juice
- Zest of 1 orange
Instructions
- Prep the ingredients by soaking chopped dates in boiling water.
- Cream together softened butter and light brown sugar until fluffy, then add eggs and vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together dry ingredients and fold into the wet mixture, alternating with mashed dates.
- Stir in toasted walnuts and pour the batter into a prepared cake tin.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes.
- Prepare the orange glaze by melting butter and mixing in sugar, orange juice, and zest until thickened.
- Glaze the warm cake and let it cool completely on a wire rack.

- Medjool dates are recommended for their rich flavor.
- Store the cake in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
