Ingredients

  • 1 cup yellow lentils
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse the yellow lentils under cold water.
  2. In a pot, heat oil and add cumin seeds.
  3. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden.
  4. Add garlic and tomatoes, cook until soft.
  5. Add turmeric and lentils, stir well.
  6. Pour in water and bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes until lentils are soft.
  8. Add salt to taste.
  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
