Description
Ginger Orange Spice Cake is a moist and flavorful dessert with warm spices and a zesty orange glaze.
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour – 2 cups (240 grams)
- Granulated sugar – 1 cup (200 grams)
- Brown sugar – 1/2 cup (100 grams)
- Baking powder – 2 teaspoons
- Baking soda – 1 teaspoon
- Ground ginger – 1 tablespoon
- Ground cinnamon – 1 teaspoon
- Ground nutmeg – 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt – 1/2 teaspoon
- Unsalted butter – 1/2 cup (113 grams), softened
- Eggs – 2 large
- Buttermilk – 1 cup (240 ml)
- Fresh orange juice – 1/4 cup (60 ml)
- Orange zest – 2 tablespoons
- Fresh ginger – 1 tablespoon, grated
- Powdered sugar (for glaze) – 1 cup (120 grams)
- Fresh orange juice (for glaze) – 2-3 tablespoons
- Orange zest (for glaze) – 1 teaspoon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, ground ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
- In another bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the sugars and continue to beat until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, mix in the buttermilk, fresh orange juice, orange zest, and grated ginger until fully combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of orange juice, and orange zest until smooth. If the glaze is too thick, add more orange juice, one teaspoon at a time, until you reach the desired consistency.
- Once the cake is completely cool, drizzle the orange glaze over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.
- Slice the cake and serve it on a simple white plate. Enjoy the moist, flavorful cake with its warm spices and zesty orange glaze as a delightful dessert or afternoon treat.
Notes
